Following a disappointing season, the Los Angeles Lakers changed coaches this summer. However, switching from Darvin Ham to JJ Redick has not improved their record. In fact, the Lakers are just 20-16 heading into today’s NBA games. This is a slower pace than the previous year’s club, who ended 47-35 and earned the eighth spot in the Western Conference playoffs.
While it is far too early to say whether the Lakers will suffer the same fate as last year, when they were ousted 4-1 in the first round of the NBA Playoffs, there is a sense that roster changes may be required to take a meaningful stride forward. However, Lakers executive Rob Pelinka has discussed a trade that would bring another All-Star to a squad that already includes LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
Los Angeles Lakers’ trade discussions for Zach LaVine did not go far. One NBA trade speculation that doesn’t seem to go away is the Chicago Bulls moving Zach LaVine. The two-time All-Star has been on the trade market for several years, but his $43 million cap hit, combined with his injury history after being limited to 25 games last season, has turned some teams away. However, the 29-year-old has returned to health, appearing in 33 of the Bulls’ 38 games this season and increasing his trade worth in the process. However, it appears that it is insufficient to secure LaVine’s departure from town. According to Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times, the Lakers recently considered a trade for LaVine, but it did not get very far.
“The Sun-Times reported last month that there was “little momentum” in trade talks with Denver, and while they were not completely off the table, they had slowed. A source also stated that there was early-season chatter regarding LaVine and the Lakers, but the puzzle lacked the necessary pieces at the time. With Los Angeles trading D’Angelo Russell for Dorian Finney-Smith a few weeks earlier, the puzzle was almost completely discarded.”
While negotiations about sending LaVine to the Lakers may return, the talks look to be dead for the time being, with Los Angeles’ recent D’Angelo Russell trade likely throwing a wrench in these plans.
