Green Bay Packers supporters fear the worst for quarterback Jordan Love after the organization revealed a new signing to its active roster before the playoffs.
The Packers announced on Saturday afternoon that quarterback Sean Clifford has been added to the active roster ahead of Sunday’s playoff game against the Philadelphia Eagles. It comes after a week of concerns about starting quarterback Love’s elbow ailment. ‘This is really worrying,’ one fan remarked in response to the statement on X, while another said, ‘Hmm….of course Love’s elbow is cooked, isn’t it?’ Another worried response simply stated, ‘Not what I like to see.’ A different perspective stated: “Tell me Jordan Love and (No. 2 quarterback) Malik Willis are not 100% without telling me they are not 100%.”
But Love was removed from the Packers’ injury report on Friday, likely indicating that there are no concerns heading into the game. He was hurt in the final game of the regular season last weekend against the Chicago Bears, but he returned to full practice Thursday. Meanwhile, Clifford has spent the whole season on the Packers’ practice squad. Some of the responses to the announcement were unexpectedly confident, with one fan joking: “Clifford will start the fourth quarter when the Packers are up by 30 points.” This week, there were also questions about the status of the Eagles’ starting quarterback, Jalen Hurts. Hurts had been in concussion protocol since sustaining a hit in a Week 16 loss to the Washington Commanders.
Only on Friday afternoon did Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni confirm Hurts’ availability to play.
