Jackson, 25, was the 45th overall selection of the 2010 MLB Draft, and has spent his entire career career in the Rangers organization. Jackson came in as a starter, but transitioned to the bullpen and debuted with the Rangers in 2015. In 15 career appearances with the Rangers, Jackson has a 8.50 ERA in 18 innings pitched.
Jenkins, 24, was picked just 5 picks after Jackson, with the 50th overall selection in the 2010 MLB Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals. After being traded to the Braves in the Jason Heyward trade, Jenkins made his debut this season, going 2-4 with a 5.58 ERA in 14 games (8 starts). Jenkins has been groomed as a starter, but could find himself in the Rangers bullpen if they decide his arm translates better there.
Feigl, 25, was an undrafted signing of the Braves who made quick work of the minors, reaching High A Lynchburg in his first minor league season. After one appearance in AAA Gwinnett, he went down with injury and spent rehab time in Rookie League last season. Feigl could be an impact reliever should he return full recovered from injury.
The move is an interesting one because it is a swap of two hybrid players with a great deal of potential, but who haven’t found their specific role yet. Both should compete for roles in the both the bullpen and rotation this spring.
