Christian Mahogany is wearing a former offensive lineman’s number.
Following the conclusion of the NFL Draft, one of the most interesting offseason events to watch is the unveiling of rookie jersey numbers.
Christian Mahogany, who was taken in the sixth round, posted the number 73 on social media, implying that he will most likely wear the same number he wore while at Boston College.
Before his arrival, Jonah Jackson wore No. 73. Detroit’s newest offensive tackle was free to wear his former college number after signing with the Rams in free agency.
For young players, it is evident that Detroit has assembled one of the strongest offensive line combinations in the NFL.
“Offensive line is a strong culture, and I feel like you guys, well now us, I can say we have one of the best offensive line rooms in the NFL,” Mahogany added. “Being a sponge and learning from those guys – (Lions T) Penei Sewell, (Graham) Glasgow, (Taylor) Decker, (Kevin) Zeitler – it’s going to be amazing for me because of where I’m at in my career. That’s why I feel the way I do.”
When faced with the option of transferring during his senior season, Mahogany remained faithful to Boston College, opting to finish his career with the Eagles and coach Jeff Hafley.
“I would describe myself as a really loyal person. I am dedicated to my teammates, players, the people around Boston College, my city, this school, and everything else. “I could have transferred,” Mahogany explained. “I could have taken the easy way out and done something that, at the time, may have been seductive.
“But I wanted to stay and win at Boston College for my coaches, coach (Jeff) Hafley, all of my teammates, (offensive lineman) Ozzy Trapio, and the O-line, which we renovated. I just wanted to be able to be with my family. I simply wanted to be able to stay and do what I wanted to do at Boston College, which was win, and we did it this year.”
