The Braves have announced Spencer Strider as their opening-day starter.
Strider takes the ball first against the Phillies, with Max Fried likely to start the home opener the following weekend.

The Atlanta Braves confirmed this afternoon that Spencer Strider will start the season opener. Strider will face fellow right-handed ace Zack Wheeler in the difficult confines of Citizens Bank Park on Thursday, April 28.

The Braves have yet to disclose their rotation intentions for games two and three of the series, but Max Fried and either Chris Sale or Charlie Morton will likely take the mound. If Fried begins game two of the series on Saturday, he will be on track to start Atlanta’s home opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday, April 5.

Strider is a deserving opening day starter. The 25-year-old prodigy is coming off a 2023 season in which he struck out a league-high 281 batters in 186 innings. All eyes will be on Strider’s new curveball, which he has repeatedly worked on this spring in an effort to broaden his pitch mix and become even better than the man
