The Green Bay Packers’ future is already looking promising. The team continued to perform well after losing Aaron Rodgers. In reality, they won more games than last year, advanced to the playoffs, and have already knocked off the NFC’s #2 seed.
Quarterback Jordan Love has looked fantastic in the second part of the season and heading into the playoffs. Now, one report has surfaced that could benefit Love in the form of stronger defense.

The Washington Commanders are likely to be active in the trade market during the 2024 offseason. The squad is coming off a terrible 4-13 season—its lowest since 2019—and has a new general manager, Adam Peters.
While Peters’ first priority will be to choose the organization’s next head coach, he will quickly begin working on building a competitive roster.
While Washington has nine picks in the 2024 draft, four of which are in the top 67, the team could use more to improve its shaky roster. Dealing veterans to free up salary-cap space and increase draft capital should be a top focus for Peters.
Due to this shift in focus,Jo nathan Allen, the team’s outstanding defensive tackle, may be on his way out after seven seasons with the club.
Allen has some of the highest trade value on the squad after making back-to-back Pro Bowl appearances in 2021-22. While his 5.5 sacks this year were his lowest since 2020, he had a great individual season and appeared in at least 15 games for the sixth year in a row.
Allen had openly voiced dissatisfaction with how the Commanders were performing throughout the difficult 2023 campaign. He has previously stated that, despite growing up as a fan of the club in Virginia, he has considered playing elsewhere and wishes to be a part of a winning franchise. While he has not publicly sought a trade, he may not need to if the team goes through a complete rebuild.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that teams had inquired about Allen’s availability prior to the deadline, and that Washington might “strip things down to the studs” this spring. Allen is owing just $29.5 million over the next two seasons, so there should be plenty of interest if he shops around.
The Green Bay Packers likely want to compete for Allen’s services. While the Packers have swiftly flourished in the post-Aaron Rodgers era, they might use more defensive aid. Even having a great regular season finish and a Wild Card playoff victory, the Packers still have a significant defensive need after allowing only 126.3 rushing yards per game and 45 sacks in 2023.
Would the Packers consider trading for a veteran defensive tackle?
Chris Jones of the Kansas City Chiefs has demonstrated that age is just a number, even for defensive linemen. Jones is the same age (29) as Allen and has established himself on the defensive line. The Packers have been hunting for a long-term running companion to pair with Kenny Clark.
Allen said he’d like to play for a winning organization in Washington, but if the Commanders are destined for another rebuild, he’d rather go elsewhere.

“I play this game to win, and I would love to win here for sure, but I want to win first and foremost,” Allen remarked, according to Grant Paulsen. “So that’s always going to be at the front and center of my mind and everything I’m going to be doing in my career is going to make sure I’ll have an opportunity to win.”
If the Packers were looking to boost their defensive line through trade, Allen could be a huge addition.
