REPORT: Jacksonville Jaguars QB Sustained An Unexpected Injury During Practice

Trevor Lawrence’s chances of facing the Carolina Panthers in Week 17 were severely harmed Thursday when the star quarterback suffered an unforeseen knee setback. Lawrence has been able to play through a number of ailments this season, but this new one may be different.

Lawrence suffered a sprained AC joint in the Jaguars’ Week 16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Lawrence did not practice on Wednesday, and the Jaguars appeared to hedge their bets on their star quarterback participating this weekend by adding Matt Barkley to the active roster.

The Jacksonville Jaguars were defeated on Thursday.

Lawrence suffered a setback on Thursday, according to Josh Alper of NBC Sports, when he appeared on the injury report as a non-participant despite head coach Doug Pederson said earlier in the day that the Jaguars anticipated Lawrence to practice:

Trevor Lawrence injury update: Jaguars quarterback back at practice

“Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said at a press conference on Thursday that quarterback Trevor Lawrence was expected to return to practice as a limited participant on Thursday, but something went wrong.”

For the second day in a row, Lawrence is classified as a non-participant on the Jaguars injury report. He has an AC joint sprain in his right shoulder, and Pederson said he would be confined to individual drills while the team prepared for the Panthers game on Sunday.

Another practice session is scheduled for Friday, but the lack of progress since Lawrence departed the Jaguars’ Week 16 loss to the Buccaneers appears to raise the likelihood that he will miss a game for the first time in his NFL career. If Lawrence is not cleared, C.J. Beathard will take the field.”

If the Jaguars could only miss one game to rest Lawrence before the playoffs, it would be their game against a 2-12 Panthers club. C.J. Beathard, the Jaguars’ backup quarterback, should be able to lead the squad against the NFL’s weakest team and offense.

The Panthers, on the other hand, are coming off one of their greatest games of the season against the Green Bay Packers in Week 16. In a deadlocked AFC South, the Jaguars, who have dropped four straight games, have no margin for error.
