Sunderland are preparing to renew their pursuit of Amad Diallo.
According to iNews, the Black Cats are keen to bring him back to Wearside on loan during the January transfer window.
Amad joined Manchester United in a move worth €40 million (£35 million) in 2020, but he failed to live up to the lofty expectations that came with the big price tag.
The Ivorian spent last season with Sunderland after trying to make an impact in the first team and having a disastrous loan spell with Rangers.
Despite a difficult start, Amad swiftly established himself as one of the Black Cats’ best loan acquisitions, scoring 14 goals in the Championship to earn the titles of Young Player of the Year and PFA Championship Fans’ Player of the Year.
Amad’s outstanding season drew interest from a number of clubs, including Sunderland, but it was unclear whether Manchester United would attempt to send him out on loan again or cash in.
However, before Tony Mowbray’s side could make a bid to bring him back to Wearside, the ‘amazing’ 21-year-old sustained an injury in pre-season, therefore ending any prospects of a summer return.
Amad Diallo has the potential to lead Sunderland to the Premier League.
According to many sources, Amad Diallo wanted to return to Sunderland if he wasn’t going to get game time with the Red Devils, and the Championship club could potentially use their relationship with United and Amad to reunite with him in January.
While Jack Clarke has scored goals for Sunderland this season, Amad was never truly replaced once he returned to Manchester. Bradley Dack was brought in, although he has struggled with fitness thus far and will fall short of the level that Amad supplied.
Sunderland’s chances of promotion will improve significantly if they can re-sign their former loanee, albeit it may rely on United’s squad depth owing to off-the-field issues with Antony and Jadon Sancho.
