Jaire Alexander, a two-time Pro Bowl cornerback, was suspended by the Green Bay Packers for their Week 17 game against the Minnesota Vikings, an unusual choice. General manager Brian Gutekunst and head coach Matt LaFleur jointly made the decision, which came after Alexander had named himself the team captain before the Packers’ thrilling victory over the Carolina Panthers in Week 16.

For his part, LaFleur informed reporters on Wednesday that “just one” incident is never the reason for a player’s suspension. For weeks now, there have been concerns raised about Alexander’s behavior in the locker room and his attitude toward the coaches. It is evident that the coin toss near-drama was the tipping point for the team, even though it is unclear to what precise incidents LaFleur was alluding to.

Fans disagree over whether Alexander’s actions are the fault of the player or of subpar coaching and leadership, but it is obvious that his teammates support the 2020 and 2022 Second Team All Pro. Alexander went on to say, following the game, that every team member was in favor of him representing his city of Charlotte as captain.
