This holiday season, John Fogerty has lots to celebrate. In a recent video message on his social media platforms, the Creedence Clearwater Revival singer conveyed Christmas greetings to his followers while also revealing some good news regarding a streaming milestone achieved by one of his old band’s famous songs. “Hey everyone, I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a very Happy New Year,” Fogerty wrote in the post, which he explained was recorded on Christmas Eve. “I’ve got some great news. It’s a lovely Christmas present for me. And the news is that my song ‘Bad Moon Rising’ has already received over 1 billion Spotify streams.”

The 79-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer went on: “And, of course, I want to thank you, thank you all very much, all the billions and billions of people who have streamed my songs.” He then noted that “Bad Moon Rising” is the third CCR song to surpass 1 billion streams, following “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” and “Fortunate Son.” As of December 26, those two songs had been streamed 1.85 billion and 1.57 billion times on Spotify.

Fogerty revealed that Christmas Eve was another CCR anniversary. In his statement, Fogerty mentioned that Christmas Eve was a significant anniversary in CCR history. As he noted, “57 years ago on Christmas Eve, I came up with the name Creedence Clearwater Revival. My, how time flies!”

Before changing their name to Creedence Clearwater Revival, Fogerty’s band was known as The Golliwogs. Meanwhile, the video update contained footage from Fogerty’s most recent social media post, in which he explained how he wrote “Bad Moon Rising.”
