Regis Le Bris’ appeal now makes a lot more sense after the triumph over Norwich City. Sunderland triumphed 2-1 on Wearside under Regis Le Bris. The Black Cats were down a goal at halftime, thanks to Anis Ben Slimane’s finish, but centre-back Dan Ballard’s goal brought the team back level. Sunderland took full advantage of a Norwich defender’s red card, with Jobe Bellingham scoring his fourth goal of the season with a stunning right-footed drive after cutting in from the left.
Overall, the Black Cats were on fire in the second half; but, one key player fell short of expectations, making one call from Le Bris in the past week seem much more reasonable. Regis Le Bris’ call for Sunderland striker recruitment has more urgent following Wilson Isidor’s display. The Black Cats eventually won thanks to Bellingham, but it appeared if Sunderland were about to squander a chance to take all three points when Wilson Isidor squandered a critical opportunity one-on-one with the keeper. The French striker only managed one shot and 13 touches throughout the game, but Le Bris has shown faith in him.
At the moment, Le Bris has no choice but to use Isidor as a striker, despite his poor form, which explains why the French manager has been advocating for one or two striker signings during the January transfer window. Regis Le Bris must find strategies to help Wilson Isidor acquire confidence. There is no dispute about Isidor’s quality, especially given the beauty of some of his goals this season, such as the single strike away at Hull City.
However, he is plainly lacking confidence, as evidenced by his lack of calm in front of goal against Norwich City, where he appeared to be ‘under pressure’, and it would be beneficial if Le Bris had choices to replace the out-of-form attacker. Until Kristjaan Speakman is able to bring in extra ranks to lead the line, Le Bris will have to man-manage Isidor to assist him regain his footing and get through this difficult patch.
