A guy has tragically died on the A19 in Sunderland following a “suspected hit and run” Northumbria Police are looking for information about an incident that occurred on the A19 northbound at the Hylton Grange Interchange about 8.20 a.m. today (December 3). Shortly after 8.20 a.m. today, Northumbria Police received a report of a man’s welfare concern on the A19 northbound near the Hylton Grange Interchange.

A representative reported: “Emergency services attended and a man aged in his 40s was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.”Officers are investigating a possible hit-and-run in which the motorist fled the scene.The vehicle involved is thought to be a Spirit Blue Ford Fiesta from 2014 or later. “The A19 is currently closed in both directions between Testos roundabout and Hylton Grange Interchange and is expected to remain so for some time.”

Officers from Northumbria Police’s Roads Policing Unit have initiated a full investigation and are now appealing to witnesses. They are especially interested in hearing from anyone who has dashcam footage or CCTV of the events leading up to the incident, as well as any information on vehicles matching the description that may have sustained damage. Sergeant Dave Roberts of Northumbria Police said: “This is a heartbreaking event in which a man has unfortunately died. “We have launched a full investigation to determine the sequence of events that led to his death.”

“We are still investigating, but we believe this is a hit-and-run involving a blue Ford Fiesta. “We would advise people to remain watchful and be aware of any vehicles matching the description that have recently been damaged in their neighborhoods. “We are also looking to speak with any witnesses who have driven through the area overnight and have dashcam footage. “We would also ask to the vehicle’s driver to come forward.

“Any information – no matter how insignificant it may seem – could prove vital in helping us ascertain exactly what took place.” Anyone with information regarding the incident should contact Northumbria Police via social media or by using the live chat and report options on their website. Alternatively, contact 101 and provide the reference number NP-20241203-0186. This is the second incident today on the A19 in Sunderland. At 6.30 a.m. this morning (December 3), Northumbria Police were also called to an RTC at the A1231 exit, which resulted in a person being transported to hospital.
