The Sunderland academy boss has sealed transfer deals for two highly rated junior players. Robin Nicholls, Sunderland academy manager, has completed two transfer signings ahead of the January window. Caden Kelly, a youth player, has extended his loan with Darlington, Sunderland announced recently. The 20-year-old joined the Quakers on a month-long contract in October, but will now stay in the National League North after making seven appearances for Steve Watson’s side.
Kelly’s revised arrangement will keep him where he is until January, when the accord will most certainly be reviewed again. Non-league clubs may sign players from EFL and Championship clubs at any time and are not limited to the winter and summer transfer windows. In other news, Sunderland defender Ben Crompton has joined non-league Tamworth on loan. The Black Cats superstar is a regular for Graeme Murty’s U21s on Wearside and can play at both centre-back and full-back. Indeed, the 20-year-old played and scored when Sunderland defeated Tamworth 5-1 in the National League Cup in midweek.
Crompton has now joined Tamworth on a one-month loan after excelling against them in the National League Cup. Robin Nicholls, Academy Manager, said: “This loan provides a wonderful opportunity for Ben to gain senior football experience at the National League level and take the next step in his development. We visited some of the Tamworth personnel earlier in the week and were impressed with their approach and desire, and we believe Ben will thrive in their setting.
