Some Sunderland players may leave during the upcoming January transfer window. Regis Le Bris has undoubtedly found his most dependable Sunderland squad thus far in the 2024/25 Championship season. Sunderland’s defence, in particular, has been unshakeable thus far, with Trai Hume and Dennis Cirkin locking down the full-back positions, while the centre-back duo of Luke O’Nien and Chris Mepham has been very steady since Dan Ballard’s injury. The midfield and attack have followed suit, with Le Bris purposely keeping his options tight and limited, and as a result, some players will obviously see their futures away from Wearside.
These three players’ lack of activity in January could lead to potential moves elsewhere. Jewison Bennette Despite some impressive performances for the U21s this season, Jewison Bennette appears to have little future at the Stadium of Light. The Costa Rican, who has 15 caps, has yet to play a league game under Le Bris, who looks to have left the attacker out of his plans despite Jack Clarke’s transfer to Ipswich Town, and the winger is set to be sold in January. It is evident that Le Bris has no interest in using the winger following the signing of Aaron Connolly, who has moved instantly above Bennette in the pecking order.
Sali Abdul Samed
Salis Abdul Samed signed for Sunderland this summer, although he has yet to play a single minute of competitive football under Le Bris. The 24-year-old Ghanaian could request a loan move in January to help him get back up to speed, as he will undoubtedly be dissatisfied with his present game time, which probably stems from the current alternatives in the heart of the field.
Adil Aouchiche Adil Aouchiche, a Sunderland midfielder, seems poised to leave this summer. His last time at FC Lorien saw him at the bottom of the pecking order under Le Bris, and that appears to have continued. The French attacking midfielder had 29 appearances last season, but he has received relatively little league play under Le Bris, totaling only 12 minutes in the Championship. Sunderland now has excellent midfield depth, and with the qualities demonstrated in the centre of the park by Rigg and Bellingham in particular, Aouchiche is unlikely to make the squad, implying that he will almost surely try to leave in January.
