It’ll be a fascinating game of who’s in and who’s out this Sunday. The Buffalo Bills have signed wide receiver Jalen Virgil to a two-year contract, moving him up from the practice squad before of the team’s Week 10 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. Virgil joined the Bills’ practice squad on August 29, just before the 2024 NFL season began. Virgil has been called up to Buffalo’s practice squad twice this season, in Weeks 8 and 9, against the Seattle Seahawks and Miami Dolphins, respectively. Virgil is now guaranteed a position on the active 53-man roster for the next three weeks.
When we announced Virgil’s signing over the summer, all we had to rely on was conjecture that he may shake up the return specialist pecking order. Pre-draft speculation about Virgil focused on his alleged exceptional speed. That, however, did not convert well into testing results, as he posted a respectable, but not outstanding, 4.40 40-yard time during his pro day. In addition to signing Virgil to the active roster, the Bills announced that defensive tackle Zion Logue will be returning to the practice squad. The obvious next issue is what this means for rookie wide receiver Keon Coleman, who suffered a wrist injury at the end of last weekend’s game against the Dolphins. Without any clear news or timeline from the Bills or head coach Sean McDermott, it’s plausible (though this is pure guesswork on our part) that One Bills Drive is preparing to be without Coleman for several weeks.
