EFL Tussle: talkSPORT analyst announces promotion judgment for Sunderland and Leeds United live on air

Tony Cascarino believes Leeds United are the club to beat in the Championship, despite Sunderland leading the standings. The race for the two automatic promotion positions is looking good, with only three points separating the Black Cats and the Whites at the top of the table. Cascarino believes Daniel Farke’s side is in a solid position to re-enter the Premier League after doing smart business in the summer, while Sunderland and Sheffield United are also in contention for promotion. “It’s always hard, Leeds I would think would be quite well placed, they sold a number of players in the summer and brought in new ones, Leeds are the team to beat” ,

Cascarino said this live on talkSPORT (8:47 a.m.). “Sunderland are top at the moment, Sheffield United are there, they bounced back after a couple of defeats, and had a two-point deduction.” What Leeds United must do to defeat Sunderland. With 33 games left to play, Leeds must be on top of their game to avoid slip-ups and ensure promotion.

It’s worth remembering that the Whites have only lost once in the league this season, whereas Sunderland have lost twice. However, Farke’s side has split its spoils with their opponents five times, compared to the Black Cats’ two, and as a result, they are three points behind the table-toppers. In retrospect, drawing 3-3 with Portsmouth at Elland Road in the season opener seemed almost as disappointing as the 1-0 loss to Burnley.

To claim one of the two automatic promotion slots, the Yorkshire-based team must find a method to convert draws into wins. After a draw with Bristol City, the club returned to winning ways with a 3-0 home victory over Plymouth Argyle. It remains to be seen whether Leeds can continue their winning streak as the festive season approaches.
