Everton have filed an application with Liverpool City Council to play live music and serve alcohol as they bid farewell to Goodison Park, according to Birkenhead News. The outlet claimed on its website [2 November] that the Blues intend to hold music, film, and dance events on no more than three days between May 19 and June 2, with the club seeking a limited permission to sell alcohol.
The Toffees will leave their 133-year-old home stadium and relocate to the Bramley-Moore Dock at the start of next season. Everton will always appreciate Goodison Park. Goodison Park has witnessed Everton’s ups and downs throughout the last century, from First Division titles and FA Cups to current relegation battles. The Toffees have seen it all, and the stadium can brag that it has never missed a Premier League game, having never been demoted from the current league.
Goodison is an icon, with a seating capacity of 39,572, but the transfer to the new stadium will launch the club into a new age and allow more fans to watch their team play. Bramley-Moore Dock will have a capacity of 52,888 fans, a huge increase, though some believe it could have gone greater. Sean Dyche deserves to be praised for how he has managed Everton’s issues despite the upheaval and uncertainty in the leadership.
The Friedkin Group is likely to finalize their ownership of the Toffees, and fans will have something to look forward to under the new owners. But Goodison will never be forgotten, and it is only fitting that the club bids it farewell.
