“A really poor decision” – BBC analyst believes referee Anthony Taylor made an error during the Southampton versus Leicester City showdown.

Alan Shearer, a former Premier League striker and BBC pundit, criticized the officiating during Southampton’s game against Leicester City on Saturday. The game was a five-goal thriller, with Leicester coming back from two goals behind to win 3-2. Cameron Archer took the Saints the lead inside 10 minutes, and Joe Aribo made it 2-0 around the 30-minute mark.

Facundo Buonanotte put the Foxes back in the game in the second half, and ten minutes later, they were awarded a penalty after Ryan Fraser fouled Vardy, which the VAR deemed to be a goal-scoring opportunity. Fraser was sent out, and Leicester’s striker, who could retire at the end of the season, converted the penalty to make it 2-2. Jordan Ayew scored the game-winning goal in the 98th minute to complete Leicester City’s comeback. Alan Shearer criticizes Anthony Taylor’s officiating at Southampton against Leicester City. Alan Shearer criticized the referees throughout the game, claiming that Saints should have received a penalty as well.

The incident in question occurred after Paul Onuachu appeared to be fouled by the Leicester player, who held onto him for several seconds. Shearer was unreservedly critical of Anthony Taylor’s choice. When asked on MOTD whether Saints should have got a penalty, he stated (as cited by the Daily Echo): “Absolutely…According to what we’re hearing, Anthony Taylor witnessed the holding, but it had no consequences. “It was determined that he was not influencing play. He’s held him for around five seconds, indicating that he’s making an impact on the game. There must be a consequence.”

“If he’s not holding him, there’s a good chance he’ll challenge for the ball; he might even get there before the goalkeeper. I believe that was a horrible decision by the referee and VAR. Russell Martin’s future at Southampton is uncertain after a terrible start. Southampton have had a dismal start to the season. They have yet to win a game, losing seven and drawing one. They are presently ranked 19th in the table, with just one point.

Manager Russell Martin’s future at the club is questionable as pressure increases. In recent weeks, various managers have been connected with the Saints position, including Graham Potter, who previously managed Brighton and Chelsea.
