Despite Everton’s win over Ipswich Town, Phil McNulty believes Sean Dyche will leave the club at the end of the season. On Saturday (19 October), the Blues won 2-0 at Portman Road, with to goals from Iliman Ndiaye and Michael Keane, to return from the international break with three points. While some have argued that the Toffees’ improved record could help Dyche keep his job at Goodison, BBC Sport columnist McNulty believes the Friedkin Group (TFG) will make a change in the dugout ahead of next season. In the BBC Sport live blog (October 21, 14:25), he stated:
“I think Sean Dyche has done well to get Everton into a four-match unbeaten run in the Premier League, with vital wins at home against Crystal Palace and away to Ipswich Town on Saturday. “He has made them more difficult to score against in recent weeks, a Dyche trademark, while Iliman Ndiaye is a real talent and gives them a “X Factor”.
According to history, new owners, such as American billionaire Dan Friedkin, typically prefer their own manager to lead their team. Dyche’s contract expires at the end of this season, creating a natural breaking point. However, if Dyche maintains Everton’s success at Goodison Park, he deserves recognition for his efforts.
Will Sean Dyche leave Everton amid Goodison Park takeover talks? As McNulty points out, Dyche deserves a lot of respect for managing the Toffees through a difficult era both on and off the pitch in recent years, as few managers would have stood by the club. However, the Blues have also decided to stick by the former Burnley manager when times have been rough. Although it appears to have paid off, the Friedkin Group may not be as eager to make that decision.
New owners typically seek out new managers, and while the takeover has not yet been completed, the signs indicate that Farhad Moshiri’s tenure in control of the blue half of Merseyside will not last long. With Dyche’s contract expiring at the end of the season and a new era on the horizon at Bramley Moore, it appears that a change in the dugout is all but inevitable. Hopefully, Dyche will go out on a good note.
