Everton’s five-week Premier League undefeated streak has surprised Jason Cundy. Speaking on talkSPORT (19 October, 5:42pm), Jamie O’Hara was unimpressed when Cundy claimed that the Toffees are now four games unbeaten following their 2-0 victory against Ipswich at Portman Road. Sean Dyche’s team lost their first four matches of the new season, surrendering 13 goals, but since September 14, the Blues have won and drawn two games each. Cundy told reporters: “They’ve not lost in the league since 14 September.” O’Hara said, “Who?” What? “It’s not the best stat in the world, is it?”

Cundy concluded: “Mate, when was the last time an Everton fan could say ‘we haven’t lost a league game in over a month?'” Everton is set to rocket up the Premier League table. Toffees fans all across the world will be hoping that a five-week unbeaten streak is only the beginning of their final season at Goodison Park, since such a run was desperately required following a disastrous start.

Dyche may be concerned that their two wins so far have both come against winless clubs lower in the table than the Blues, but that number of opponents will grow if the run continues. The 53-year-old appeared to be on the verge of being fired following back-to-back 3-2 losses to Bournemouth and Aston Villa, but in the weeks since, Dyche has calmed the ship and then some. A rapid rise from the bottom of the table to sixteenth place in a short of weeks can still be reversed at this early stage of the season, but fans will be optimistic that their trend is upward.

With 30 league games remaining, anything can happen at either end of the table, but if Everton can maintain their current form, they may just have to worry about the top half.
