The Green Bay Packers are attempting to achieve something they have not done since the days of Vince Lombardi and Bart Starr: defeat the Los Angeles Rams on the road in California. The last time a Packers team defeated the Rams in Los Angeles was 1966. They are 0-14 against Los Angeles since then (though they were 4-2 against the Rams in St. Louis from 1995 to 2015).
Green Bay’s bid to end their 58-year drought in Los Angeles against the Rams will require them to overcome much more than simply an intriguing piece of history. The Packers will also be missing both of their starting wide receivers. Green Bay Packers wide receivers Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs will not play against the Los Angeles Rams.
Christian Watson, a Packers wide receiver, was hurt during Green Bay’s Week 4 loss to the Minnesota Vikings at Lambeau Field. When the injury originally occurred, many fans and commentators assumed the worst. Watson, on the other hand, only had a high ankle sprain and will not be placed on injured reserve. He will, however, miss Sunday’s game against the Rams. Earlier on Saturday, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst confirmed that Green Bay’s other starting wide receiver, Romeo Doubs, will be suspended by the team for their Week 5 game against the Rams.
“Unfortunately, we had to make the difficult decision to suspend Romeo from this week’s game.” His decisions and actions this week had a detrimental influence on the team, prompting us to take this action. While we are disappointed, we believe we will be able to go on in a positive manner. Romeo is an important element of our squad, and we look forward to having him back next week.” Doubts missed practice on Thursday and Friday. According to Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated, the third-year wide receiver is dissatisfied with his role on the team (despite ranking third in targets and second in receptions).
He also stated that team members conducted a well-fare check on Doubs during his absence since they were concerned for his well-being. The Green Bay Packers have no plans to trade Romeo Doubs. The news of Doubs’ dissatisfaction with the Packers quickly sparked trade speculation throughout the NFL. Several teams even contacted Gutekunst to determine his market. According to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, Green Bay’s general manager advised them that Doubs is not now available for trade.
According to Jones’ post, the Packers aim to put this matter behind them early next week. While it is easy for fans to be outraged with Doubs, it is important to remember that clubs do not do wellness checks on players who are simply upset about their playing time or role on the offense. There is something more going on that nobody outside of 1265 Lombardi Avenue is aware of, and that is fine. Hopefully, Doubs is well and will be returning better than ever next week.
