Saints Coaching News: Seahawks Granted Permission To Interview QB Coach An…

Another New Orleans assistant coach appears to be on his way out, according to reports. Andrew Janocko, the New Orleans Saints quarterback coach, is expected to interview for a position on the Seattle Seahawks coaching staff. On Wednesday night, ESPN Saints writer Katherine Terrell was the first to disclose that Seattle asked and was granted permission to talk with Janocko about their empty quarterback coaching position. Janocko, 36, has recently finished his debut season on the New Orleans coaching staff. Prior to joining the Saints, Janocko was the Chicago Bears’ quarterback coach from 2022 to 2023. He has previously served as an offensive assistant with the Minnesota Vikings from 2015 to 2021.

If hired by the Seahawks, Janocko would work under Klint Kubiak again the following season. Kubiak, who was the Saints’ offensive coordinator last season, was just hired by Seattle in the same role. All of New Orleans’ coaches have effectively been given permission to communicate with other teams. This is usual procedure for a team seeking to appoint a new head coach. The Saints sacked Dennis Allen following a 2-7 season and are still conducting interviews for their head coaching position.

The Saints have not only lost Kubiak this summer, but LB Coach Michael Hodges also left in a lateral move to the Cincinnati Bengals. Darren Rizzi, also the special teams coordinator, is expected to land with another team if he doesn’t obtain the New Orleans head coaching position. According to Kat Terrell of ESPN, the Saints want to keep Janocko, but while they look for a new head coach, they’ve been allowing more coaches to interview and depart for lateral roles. Some position coaches were waiting to see if Darren Rizzi would obtain the permanent role.

Last year, Kubiak and Janocko led the Saints to 21st in total offense and 23rd in passing production. It was a battered club that dealt with an incessant stream of ailments all season. New Orleans quarterbacks completed 61.7% of their passes for 3,467 yards, with 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Starter Derek Carr completed 67.7% of his passes for 2,145 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions.

Carr missed a total of seven games due to injuries. In his absence, rookie fifth-round pick Spencer Rattler and second-year Jake Haener went 0-7 in starts. Rattler and Haener combined for a 55.4% completion rate, 1,543 yards, 5 touchdown passes, and 6 interceptions.
