Tommy Kahnle, a relief pitcher for the New York Yankees, is getting close to finishing his rehab assignment and might make a return to the team this week while Gerrit Cole and DJ LeMahieu continue to recover from injuries.

Before Sunday’s game against the Chicago White Sox, Yankees manager Aaron Boone informed media that Kahnle might be activated on Wednesday.

A few updates on Yankees injuries are as follows:

Since suffering from inflammation in his shoulder during spring training, Kahnle has been gradually getting better. April saw a slight slowdown in his rehabilitation, but for the past two weeks, he has been in the midst of an assignment.

Boone stated that Wednesday, the third game in a four-game series at home against the Seattle Mariners, will likely see Kahnle activated.

The Yankees veteran infielder continues to work his way back from a non-displaced foot fracture he suffered in spring training when he fouled a ball off his right foot. He suffered a setback in his first rehab game but started a second rehab stint this week in Double-A Somerset.

Boone told reporters that LeMahieu is playing in his second rehab game Sunday and then could go back to back games Tuesday and Wednesday before potentially playing in three straight games over the weekend.

Boone didn’t provide an update on Cole before Sunday’s game, but the Yankees ace threw a bullpen Saturday morning. The next step for Cole is to throw a live bullpen against hitters in batting practice, which could happen early during the upcoming week.
