Everton’s new signing. Jesper Lindstrom discusses his objectives following a move to Merseyside that began with a dream debut at Preston North End. Jesper Lindstrom said his transfer into Everton’s squad was “natural” as he reflected on an outstanding debut in Royal Blue. The 23-year-old scored a wonderful free kick in Everton’s 3-0 victory over Preston North End, in which the club displayed their greatest attacking form of the summer. The loanee’s connection with teammates Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Jack Harrison, and Dwight McNeil looks to have played a role in this.
The four made an effective attacking unit in Deepdale, with Calvert-Lewin scoring and assisting, Lindstrom scoring, and Harrison and McNeil playing key roles in the first and third goals. The performance was a much-needed boost for Sean Dyche. While the Blues manager has stated that fitness has been the key in the matches thus far, he wants more from his players following a dismal performance against Coventry City last week. He received it on Saturday.
When asked about his first few weeks at Everton, Lindstrom said: “I told my mental coach and agent that it feels so natural, like I’ve been here for a couple of months.” So, yeah, they’re taking great care of me, the physios, the guys on the squad, the coaches, and everything. “So I’m quite pleased to be here. I still need to get it going because I still have some – you see, when I get the ball, I still have to look up from time to time, which takes time, but I want to be fully prepared for the Premier League.”
Lindstrom, who joined the Blues on loan from Napoli last month, said his run out was a nice opportunity after overcoming some small fitness difficulties early in his pre-season. He stated, “It’s always fantastic to score goals and win games. And, yes, it was nice to have some minutes in my legs; I had been waiting for them, but I had some minor issues and didn’t want to risk anything. So I am quite thrilled.”
One of the many highlights of his afternoon was his first encounter with Everton fans, as more than 5,000 Blues packed the away end to cheer for their team. He stated, “They were magnificent. I cannot wait to get started. I had heard some stories, but this is even better (than I imagined). I want the atmosphere in Goodison Park, and I am looking forward to it.” The Danish international had a difficult season in Serie A after a huge money move from Eintracht Frankfurt, where he won the Europa League.
He is eager to restart his career on Merseyside, saying of his ambitions: “Just to get back on track. Hey, I had some good seasons in Frankfurt and a difficult one in Italy, so I want to get back on track. I have some minutes in my legs, and I want to show the world that I still have my level and can perform.”
