A few weeks ago, it was claimed that Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich was a candidate for the Chicago Bears’ head coaching position. Of course, he did not receive a job offer from Chicago, as the Bears instead hired former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. However, a Packers Hall of Famer has already accepted a job offer from Chicago. Green Bay Packers Hall of Famer Al Harris has joined the Chicago Bears coaching staff.
According to various sources, former Packers cornerback Al Harris, who was enshrined into the team’s Hall of Fame in 2021, has accepted a position as the Bears’ passing game coordinator and cornerbacks coach. Harris had spent the previous five seasons as a member of Mike McCarthy’s Dallas Cowboys coaching staff. Last season, he was elevated to assistant head coach and also served as defensive backs coach. Harris served as a coaching intern for the Miami Dolphins in 2012 before joining his former mentor with the Packers in Dallas. He served on the Kansas City Chiefs’ coaching staff from 2013 to 2018.
Of course, he is most known for his tenure as a Pro Bowl cornerback for the Packers, who acquired him via trade from the Philadelphia Eagles in 2003. After five great seasons with the Eagles, Harris played seven years as a starter cornerback for Green Bay. In 2007, he made his first Pro Bowl appearance and was awarded Second Team All-Pro. Harris finished the year with 37 tackles, two interceptions, and nine passes defended. Harris returned to the Pro Bowl in 2008, making 25 tackles, no interceptions, and nine passes defended in 12 games.
2008 also marked the first time in his NFL career that he did not play all 16 games. He played only 10 games in 2009, yet he had two interceptions and a fumble recovery. After the 2009 season, the Packers dismissed him, and he spent the final two years of his career with the Miami Dolphins and the St. Louis Rams.
