Alex McGough has returned to the Birmingham Stallions of the United Football League after declining to sign a reserves/futures contract with the Green Bay Packers following their Wild Card Round loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. McGough, 29, has spent the last two seasons with the Green Bay Packers’ practice squad. As a reserve, the FIU product alternated between quarterback and wide receiver. In 2024, he was officially recognized as a wide receiver for the team.
Before joining the Green Bay Packers, McGough won two USFL championships with the Birmingham Stallions in 2022 and 2023. He also earned MVP in 2023, tossing 2,104 yards, 20 touchdowns, and five interceptions for a passer rating of 108.3. The former Green Bay Packers quarterback will join J’Mar Smith and Matt Corral in the Birmingham Stallions’ quarterback room. On March 30, they will face off against the DC Defenders in the UFL season opener.

Losing Alex McGough is not a big concern for the Green Bay Packers, who still have Jordan Love, Malik Willis, and Sean Clifford at quarterback. Jordan Love completed 268-of-425 passes for 3,389 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, for a QBR of 69.2 percent. He only appeared in 15 regular-season games due to injuries.
Malik Willis was Love’s primary backup, as the former Tennessee Titans player completed 40 of 54 throws for 550 yards and three touchdowns.
