Aaron Judge’s heroics were unable to keep the Bronx Bombers in the game, as Yankees ace Gerrit Cole was shaken on his way to one of his worst games ever.

For many of the people wearing pinstripes, it was an ugly game, but for infielder Gleyber Torres, it was an extremely awful one. In addition to going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts, the former two-time All-Star manager Aaron Boone yelled at their second baseman.
“That’s a play he ought to do,” Boone informed the press. “There’s been a lot of extremely good defense that nobody ever asks about in the last two weeks following the (dropped) popup. He has to put on a play. That is all there is to it. He was not present tonight. It takes place. We need to motivate him.”
A grand slam by Judge in the top of the eighth inning gave the Yankees a 9-7 lead again. In the very next at-bat following the grand slam, Torres hit a soft grounder and failed to sprint to first base.
“He and I have talked about that,” Boone said. “He has been dealing with a little bit of a groin (injury) that he came out for last week. There are certain spots where he’s careful with it. He’s obviously really important to what we’re doing, especially right now needing some meat in the middle of the lineup. We have to get him going.”
