The statue, placed in front of Howard High School—White’s alma mater—depicts the Hall of Fame defensive end mid-stride, arms outstretched and eyes focused, symbolizing his relentless pursuit on the field and his unwavering commitment to faith and community. At nearly 7 feet tall, the sculpture stands as both an athletic monument and a spiritual symbol of hope and excellence.

Reggie White’s career is the stuff of legend. After a standout collegiate run at the University of Tennessee, White dominated both the USFL and NFL, ultimately playing for the Philadelphia Eagles, Green Bay Packers, and Carolina Panthers. He finished his career with 198 sacks—second all-time—and was selected to 13 Pro Bowls. He earned NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors twice and was instrumental in helping the Packers win Super Bowl XXXI.
However, it was in Philadelphia where White truly made his name. As a member of the Eagles from 1985 to 1992, he became the cornerstone of one of the NFL’s fiercest defenses, earning the nickname “Minister of Defense” for his powerful play and deep Christian faith. White was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006, a year after his untimely death at age 43.
“This statue is more than a tribute to an incredible athlete,” said Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie, who attended the unveiling. “It’s a reminder of Reggie’s enduring impact—his commitment to justice, his compassion for others, and his drive to be a force for good. He was a once-in-a-generation talent, but an even better human being.”

White’s widow, Sara White, led the unveiling alongside their children, Jeremy and Jecolia. As the cover was removed from the statue, the crowd erupted in applause. Many were moved to tears, seeing the familiar No. 92 immortalized in bronze.
“This moment is for Chattanooga,” Sara White said. “Reggie never forgot where he came from. He always believed that his purpose extended far beyond football—to serve, to lead, to inspire. This statue is a symbol of that mission.”
Reggie White’s contributions off the field were just as significant. A licensed Baptist minister, he was deeply involved in social justice work, community outreach, and youth mentorship. His foundation, which continues to serve underprivileged youth through education and athletics, was also highlighted at the ceremony.
Honoring a Hometown Hero
Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly spoke passionately about White’s influence on the local community.
“Reggie White showed the world what it means to rise from humble beginnings and achieve greatness without ever losing sight of who you are,” Kelly said. “This statue will stand for generations as a source of pride and inspiration.”
Also present were representatives from the NFL and the Philadelphia Eagles, as well as former teammates like Randall Cunningham and Clyde Simmons, who praised White’s leadership and spirituality as much as his football prowess.
“Reggie was the soul of our locker room,” Cunningham said. “He kept us grounded, kept us fighting. But more than anything, he made us believe.”
Lasting Symbol of Greatness
The project to commission the statue began nearly two years ago, funded through a combination of city grants, private donations, and support from the NFL. Renowned sculptor Omari Brown was selected for the work, and he spent months researching footage, interviews, and photos to ensure every detail—from White’s signature pass rush stance to the expression in his eyes—was captured with authenticity.
“Creating this statue wasn’t just about art,” said Brown. “It was about telling a story. Reggie’s story is one of power, purpose, and perseverance. I wanted every person who walks past this statue to feel that energy.”
A Legacy Cemented
For fans of the Philadelphia Eagles and football lovers nationwide, the unveiling serves as a powerful reminder of Reggie White’s unmatched contributions to the sport and society. His No. 92 jersey has long been retired by both the Eagles and the Packers, and now, in Chattanooga, his presence is permanently etched into the city’s landscape.
