Nothing To Fear: Sunderland AFC could land millions as new Spurs transfer development emerges

Sunderland might make a substantial profit if they trade Wilson Isidor this summer. According to Chronicle Live, scouts from Premier League clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace were delighted by the Frenchman’s performance in the Black Cats’ 2-1 loss to Leeds United on Monday. Despite Regis Le Bris’ side losing in stoppage time, it’s no wonder that Isidor drew attention, as he demonstrated his quality once more with a precise finish to put Sunderland ahead in the first half.

The frontman only made his permanent move to the Stadium of Light during the January transfer window, but his strong performances this season suggest that Sunderland may already be receiving big bids for him in the summer. Isidor has been excellent this season. Only Borja Sainz and Joel Piroe have scored more goals than Isidor in the Championship this season.

The striker has been a revelation since joining North East from Zenit St Petersburg in the summer. He joined the Black Cats on a season-long loan, but his performances in the first half of the season were so excellent that Sunderland decided to activate their option to sign him permanently as early as February.

Although the official amount for Isidor was not published, it was estimated to be over £3 million (according to Chronicle Live). Given how easily he has adapted to the English game, Isidor is already making that money appear insignificant. Sunderland’s goal at Elland Road on Monday night was just the latest in a string of impressive strikes. It was a goal that represented all he offers to Le Bris’ team. Isidor demonstrated his strength and power by expertly pinning and then rolling Ethan Ampadu before coolly putting the ball past Illan Meslier and into the corner through the inside of the far post.

A pair of implausible stoppage time penalty failures in a 0-0 draw at Burnley in mid-January was a significant setback, but Isidor has demonstrated his mental fortitude in the way he has recovered from that disappointment. The 24-year-old has four goals and one assist in six appearances since the Lancashire match.

Sunderland would surely make a huge amount of profit on Isidor

Although he has only been in Sunderland for less than a year, given Isidor’s current value, the club must be tempted to trade him in the summer. As devastating as it would be for the Black Cats to lose their star, with Spurs and Crystal Palace sniffing around, Sunderland could easily up their asking price dramatically.

Palace is no stranger to acquiring young players from the Championship. Millwall academy graduate Romain Esse was the latest to join the Eagles in January, and the South London club has also helped Ebere Eze develop from a potential Championship kid into an England international. With the current state of the transfer market, Premier League clubs are beginning to spend more money on Championship players, with Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter making large money moves this summer.

Losing Isidor so soon would definitely be disappointing for Sunderland, particularly the supporters, but it would almost certainly result in a significant profit from just one year of work on the player. Reinvest that profit wisely, and it could easily fund three or four top-tier players to give the Black Cats the best chance of promotion or Premier League survival next season.

If Le Bris’ team succeeds this season, joining the Premier League will only increase Isidor’s value. If the Black Cats were to regain their top-flight status, they may rest assured that only the country’s true best clubs would be a step up. For the time being, the club’s focus will be solely on regaining promotion to the Premier League. With a difficult end to the season ahead for Sunderland, Isidor might make an even greater contribution.
