The Chicago Bulls are now on a downhill trend. The franchise was eventually able to find a trade destination for Zach LaVine, who was sent to the Sacramento Kings before the deadline. Nikola Vucevic was also one of the Bulls’ top targets for trade, but he remains in Chicago. Winning is definitely not the most important thing for the Bulls right now. They are currently on a five-game losing streak and have a 22-34 overall record. Somehow, they still have a play-in spot.
Patrick Williams is another Bulls player whose name made the rounds of the trade rumor mill prior to the deadline but yielded nothing of substance. Williams now appears to be out of action for at least a few weeks, if not more. According to Bulls on X, Williams had a platelet rich plasma (PRP) injection to alleviate tendinosis in his right knee. He will be reevaluated in two weeks.
Williams was picked fourth overall by the Bulls in the 2020 NBA Draft. He is now in his sixth season with the team, but he has yet to have a breakout performance. This season, he has averaging 9.1 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists despite shooting at a career-low percentage from the field and three-point range. So it’s hardly surprising that the Bulls are considering parting ways with Williams as they begin their rebuild.
The problem is that Williams only re-signed with the Bulls last summer on a five-year contract worth an estimated $90 million. Many teams in the league may be unwilling to make such a significant commitment in a player who has demonstrated no growth over the last five seasons.
