The Green Bay Packers will retain both its offensive coordinator, Adam Stenavich, and defensive coordinator, Jeff Hafley, after both were passed over for head coaching positions. Stenavich lost his job with the Chicago Bears to Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, and Hafley was passed over for the New York Jets role in favor of Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn.
While Packers supporters are relieved to have both Stenavich and Hafley, they are eager to get rid of one coordinator in particular: special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia. Rich Bisaccia, the Green Bay Packers’ special teams coordinator, was linked to the Dallas Cowboys. Earlier today (Thursday), Pro Football Post reported that Bisaccia was linked to the Dallas Cowboys’ open head coaching vacancy.
According to a high-level league executive, the Cowboys are interested in Packers special teams coordinator and former Raiders interim head coach Rich Bisaccia. Neither the Cowboys nor the Packers have responded to inquiries about whether Dallas requested or obtained permission from Green Bay to interview Bisaccia, who is in the final year of his contract.
Bisaccia served as interim head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders before becoming the NFL’s highest-paid special teams coordinator with the Packers. Previously, he served as the Cowboys’ special teams coordinator for several years. The troubles of Green Bay’s special teams unit have been well chronicled, and supporters are fed up with their underperformance. Many fans were delighted at the prospect of Bisaccia’s departure. However, a social media post by NFL source Ed Werder denied the idea that Dallas is interested in Bisaccia, who also serves as the Packers’ associate head coach:
While the news rained on Packers supporters’ parade, there were a few hours on Thursday when they were delighted about Bisaccia’s potential departure. Green Bay Packers fans were excited about the Rich Bisaccia-Dallas Cowboys news. There is no doubting that Bisaccia is a wonderful person with a reputation for developing close bonds with his athletes. After being fired by the Raiders after a successful stint as interim head coach, he penned a handwritten “thank you” message to each and every player on their roster for everything they contributed to the season with him. However, the NFL is a results-driven business, and supporters were enthused about Bisaccia’s potential departure:
However, as Werder pointed out, the rumor that Dallas has asked Green Bay for permission to speak with Bissacia is unsubstantiated. It will be fascinating to watch what Matt LaFleur does once Bisaccia’s contract expires at the end of the 2025 season.
