Chicago Bears to Interview former Coach, Wisconsin Badger for DC

The Green Bay Packers received some positive coaching news in the previous several days. Two of head coach Matt LaFleur’s top coaches, offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich and defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, had previously interviewed for head coaching positions with other clubs. Stenavich is with the Chicago Bears, and Hafley is with the New York Jets. Fortunately for Green Bay, the Bears and Jets have hired away Detroit Lions coaches, with offensive coordinator Ben Johnson moving to Chicago and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn to New York.

Johnson and Glenn now need to replace their staffs, and one of them is considering a former Packers coach and Wisconsin Badgers player. The Chicago Bears want to interview former Green Bay Packers coach and Wisconsin Badgers star, Aubrey Pleasant. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Johnson and the Bears intend to interview current Los Angeles Rams assistant head coach and passing game coordinator Aubrey Pleasant for the defensive coordinator position.

Green Bay has interviewed former Bears defensive coordinator Eric Washington for the vacant defensive line coach position. Pleasant, as some fans may know, was recently an offensive consultant on LaFleur’s Green Bay staff. After Lions head coach Dan Campbell fired him as defensive backs coach in the middle of the 2022 season, the Packers hired him as offensive consultant.

Following the 2022 season, many supporters wanted Pleasant to succeed Joe Barry as defensive coordinator. He was, however, hired back by the Rams, where he had previously served as defensive backs coach from 2017 to 2020. Pleasant has previously coached for the Washington Commanders and the Cleveland Browns. Pleasant met and became friends with LaFleur, the quarterbacks’ coach at the time, while he was in Washington. Sean McVay, the Rams’ current head coach, also served as the tight ends coach.

Prior to his coaching career, he played defensive back for the Wisconsin Badgers from 2005 to 2008. Pleasant began his coaching career as a defensive graduate assistant at Michigan in 2011, rather than as a player. He also received a Master’s degree in education during his time there.
