Wilson Isidor breaks silence on ‘the worst day of my life’

Sunderland’s 0-0 draw with Burnley had a lot of positives. Unfortunately for Wilson Isidor, there were two major setbacks as the Frenchman missed twice from the spot. Sunderland remain in fourth place in the Championship rankings following their 0-0 draw with Burnley on Friday. Regis Le Bris’ side adds another great point and performance on the road against extremely strong opposition in Burnley.

 

 

But a win was possible on the night, and it would have brought them level with leaders Leeds United. Wilson Isidor had two chances to score from the penalty spot, but the Black Cats’ leading scorer missed both. Pundit Gary Bennett was furious at Isidor following the Burnley game. Isidor appeared to insist on taking the second penalty despite missing the first, eventually departing the field in tears after full time. On social media, many Sunderland fans vented their anger at the Frenchman. However, there were some who supported him and reminded everyone of how significant he had been thus far.

Soon after full-time, Isidor shared an Instagram story with a lengthy apology to Sunderland fans, apologising for the two penalty misses and describing Friday as ‘the saddest day of my life’. Isidor’s post read: “It feels like a slap in the face and the saddest day of my life because we all know how much I adore this club. Even if only actions on the field may bring forgiveness, I would like to apologize to my teammates, every single fan, and every member of this club for what happened today.I’m ashamed, but I promise you that I’ll come back stronger! See you on Tuesday, HWTL. And also big love for all the messages of support from the real one.”
