Observations, analysis, report cards, and recaps of Buffalo’s Super Wild Card victory over Denver The Buffalo Bills gave up a score to the Denver Broncos on the first possession of Sunday’s AFC Super Wild Card game at boisterous Highmark Stadium, but after falling behind early, Buffalo dominated the remainder of the game. The Bills did anything they wanted against the Broncos, scoring 31 unanswered scores and holding Denver scoreless for the last 57 minutes and 24 seconds of play. Today’s Buffalo Rumblinks features observations and analysis from the Bills’ sixth consecutive home Wild Card triumph, in which the team dominated time of possession, ran the ball at will, and benefited from another vintage Josh Allen playoff effort.
Observations and commentary from the Buffalo Bills win After Bo Nix connected with Troy Franklin for a 43-yard touchdown throw on Denver’s first possession, the Buffalo Bills completely outplayed the Broncos, scoring the game’s remaining 31 points while outgaining them 471-224 and having a more than 23-minute edge in time of possession. Buffalo punted only once, and the Bills’ offensive line did an excellent job keeping the NFL’s greatest pass rush at bay, RB James Cook was outstanding, racking up 120 rushing yards (averaging 5.2 yards per carry), while Josh Allen completed 20 of 26 passes for 272 yards and two touchdowns (with no interceptions) on a day when the Bills’ balanced offense dominated the stingy Denver defense.
Defensive coordinator Bobby Babich and head coach Sean McDermott devised a game plan that perplexed rookie quarterback Bo Nix, stifled Denver’s ground game (Broncos backs rushed for only 35 yards on 13 carries), and never let head coach Sean Payton’s Broncos re-enter the game following a critical fourth-down touchdown pass from Allen to running back Ty Johnson.
