Another veteran Penn State defensive lineman joins the growing list of NFL-bound Nittany Lions

Dvon J-Thomas, a redshirt super senior, will enter the NFL draft after a six-year career in Happy Valley that included 60 appearances and 26 starts from 2019-24. When Dvon J-Thomas arrived at Penn State in 2019, he certainly didn’t anticipate to remain in Happy Valley for a 12-team College Football Playoff run in 2024 and 2025, but pandemic eligibility extended lots of careers in the sport. After six seasons with the Nittany Lions, the redshirt senior has stated that he will enter the NFL draft in 2025.

The 6-foot-1, 305-pound defensive tackle had his greatest season in Year 6, with more than 250 defensive snaps for the fourth straight season. J-Thomas set a career best with 29 tackles and 12 quarterback pressures, although he concluded the season with only one sack. He closes his career as a Nittany Lion with 60 appearances and 26 starts, leaving him a significant loss, not only on the field, but also in the defensive line room under coach Deion Barnes.

Penn State will lose a lot of defensive line depth this offseason, with J-Thomas, Coziah Izzard, Amin Vanover, and Alonzo Ford Jr. all reaching the end of their eligibility in 2024, and Abdul Carter entering the NFL Draft as a likely top-10 pick. That truth underscored the significance of junior star defensive tackle Zane Durant’s decision to return to Happy Valley for his senior season in 2025. Durant was second in snaps to Carter, with J-Thomas third.

J-Thomas now joins Carter, Jaylen Reed, Jalen Kimber, and Kevin Winston Jr. as the first Nittany Lions from the 2024 roster to officially declare for the spring draft. More announcements are expected throughout the week, particularly on the offensive side of the ball, where tight end Tyler Warren is out of eligibility and running backs Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen face a critical decision following their spectacular junior seasons.
