Whether you consider it a slow or rapid process, the New Orleans Saints are progressing in their coaching search. Here’s how things stand as of Thursday afternoon. On Wednesday, New Orleans began the process with a video interview with Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver. They revealed on Thursday that they had completed one with Giants assistant coach and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka.
Aaron Glenn, the Lions’ defensive coordinator, will be the Saints’ third interview, with a meeting scheduled for Friday morning. Due to league rules, it must be a virtual one, and Glenn is now able to do so because the Lions have a first-round bye in the playoffs. New Orleans has made demands for Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady, and Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. Kingsbury’s request was confirmed on Thursday morning.
Mike Vrabel and Darren Rizzi are both expected to interview sometime next week. Rizzi also has an interview scheduled with the Jets. Other names linked to the Saints, such as Matt Nagy, have no scheduled interviews at this moment. Potential contenders include Pete Carroll, Jon Gruden, Dan Pitcher, Bobby Slowik, and Brian Flores. Another thing to note is that two teams have now requested an interview with Klint Kubiak. The first was the Browns, which is understandable considering his connection and friendship with Kevin Stefanski. The other team, as reported on Thursday, was the Seahawks.
Darren Rizzi stated on Monday that Mickey Loomis will handle any lateral transfers for Saints assistant coaches on a case by case basis. New Orleans is scheduled to conduct reviews next week, including Loomis and Rizzi. Keep up with the Saints this offseason with our podcast, Second And Saints.
