The Miami Dolphins missed the playoffs this season after losing 32-20 to the New York Jets in Week 18. The team concluded the regular season with an 8-9 record, which was Mike McDaniel’s first losing season as Miami’s head coach. Tyreek Hill made headlines during the postgame interview, claiming he “wants out” of Miami. With the offseason officially underway for clubs not in the playoffs, the 30-year-old wide receiver could get his wish.
According to reports, Hill’s teammates were hesitant to criticize him after the star wide receiver did not play in the fourth quarter Sunday. According to Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald, teammate Bradley Chubb spoke up about the situation, saying he was “disappointed” that Hill was not playing and wanted to leave the Dolphins. Chubb admitted he was “disappointed” by Hill’s actions. However, the 28-year-old linebacker stated that the Dolphins have “got to move on with the guys who want to be here and will continue to fight.”
Hill inked a three-year, $90 million contract with the Dolphins after they acquired him from the Kansas City Chiefs. The former Super Bowl-winning receiver will not be eligible for free agency until the offseason of 2027. That implies Miami would have to trade Hill if he actually wanted to leave the team. The Dolphins have had Hill on their roster since the 2022 season. Hill has 319 receptions, 4,468 receiving yards, and 27 total touchdowns in three seasons with the organization. He had his greatest season in 2023, finishing with 119 receptions (tied career high), 1,799 yards (career high), and 13 total touchdowns.
If Hill actually wants out of Miami, he’ll undoubtedly attract a lot of attention. Star edge rusher Micah Parsons has already started courting Hill to join the Dallas Cowboys. Regardless, Dallas would have to trade for the outstanding wide receiver or hope the Dolphins release Hill to free agency. Only time will tell how the Dolphins-Hill saga will unfold. Despite appearing in all 17 games this season, the veteran wide receiver posted career lows. He concluded the 2024 season with 81 receptions, 959 receiving yards (his first time under 1,000 yards since 2019), and six touchdowns (matched career low).
