The Green Bay Packers may be making the NFL Playoffs for the second year in a row, but many supporters are not optimistic. Green Bay has lost its final two regular season games, both to division opponents, and is 1-5 versus the NFC North this season. Furthermore, the Packers’ placement may have improved if they had defeated the Minnesota Vikings in Week 17. As things stand, they’ll have to travel to Philadelphia to face the 14-3 Eagles in the Wild Card Round.
Because of Green Bay’s slide to the finish line at the end of the regular season, as well as their bothersome habit of starting games slowly, many fans have begun to worry if head coach Matt LaFleur is on the hot seat. Green Bay Packers fans are not pleased with Matt LaFleur. After the Packers fell to the Chicago Bears in Week 18, fans were furious with LaFleur. Forgotten was the fact that it was his first loss against the Bears as head coach. Many supporters believe the Wild Card matchup with the Eagles is already gone.
Obviously, these supporters have forgotten, or are unaware, that LaFleur has now led the NFL’s youngest team to the playoffs for the second consecutive season. This year’s team is the second youngest ever to reach the NFL Playoffs. Only last season’s Packers team was younger. Former Green Bay Packers wide receiver James Jones does not believe that Matt LaFleur should be fired.
James Jones, a former wide receiver with Green Bay, has been one of their most vocal boosters over the years. Jones, now an NFL pundit, frequently supported the Packers’ choice to move on from his former comrade Aaron Rodgers. Jones, who never played for LaFleur, now defends his former team’s head coach, stating that he is pleased with his performance since taking over the Packers. While a 1-5 division record and many blunders are not ideal, one might argue that LaFleur has accelerated this team’s development faster than other head coaches.
