Sunderland is one of the clubs reportedly interested in signing Glen Kamara. Sunderland are expected to face stiff competition in their January efforts to acquire reported target Glen Kamara, according to reports. The Stade Rennais midfielder was mentioned as a potential loan option for the Black Cats over the holiday season, with Jeunes Footeux claiming Regis Le Bris’ side is already watching the former Leeds United and Rangers man ahead of a more formal offer in the coming weeks. However, if Sunderland pursues Kamara, they may not get everything they want.
According to TBR Football, a number of Premier League and Championship clubs are interested in signing the 29-year-old, including Southampton, Ipswich Town, Burnley, and Middlesbrough. Kamara’s future in France appears to be questionable, as he only signed for Stade Rennais from Leeds this summer. Since then, Jorge Sampaoli has replaced Julien Stephan in the dugout, and the Finland international’s first-team opportunities have dwindled. Sampaoli kept Kamara on the bench in a recent 1-0 loss to Nantes and does not appear to see him as a regular starter, with the player only appearing for 13 minutes in a 2-0 victory over Angers the last time out. In this context, speculation about Kamara’s future has begun to simmer.
For his part, the midfielder has spoken positively about his move to Ligue 1. In an interview with GiveMeSport last month, he stated: “I feel settled now.” I didn’t know anyone before joining. I’d played Jordan James a few times before, but I was mostly untested. I am learning French, and I comprehend more than I can speak! This is my first time playing outside of the United Kingdom, so it will be a challenge in and of itself. Hopefully, moving to Rennes and playing in Ligue 1 will help my game and make me a better player.”
