A look at the starting changes Sean Dyche may make to his Everton team for the visit of his former club Nottingham Forest to Goodison Park on Sunday. The probable return of Ashley Young and if it is time to play Armando Broja are two of Sean Dyche’s greatest decisions ahead of Sunday. Young has been one of Everton’s top performers this season, although he missed the match at Manchester City due to suspension.
In his place, club captain Seamus Coleman returned to play a key role at both ends of the field. He was withdrawn from the game with minutes remaining due to cramp, but Coleman will be ready for the visit of Nottingham Forest, leaving Dyche with a decision at right back. The Blues cut a furious figure on the sidelines and was obviously agitated as his team struggled to present an attacking threat in the first half hour at the Etihad Stadium on Boxing Day. Dominic Calvert-Lewin was once again a lonely figure as Everton focussed on preserving defensive strength.
When loan forward Broja stepped on the scene, Man City were desperate for a win. Nonetheless, the Albania international made another helpful cameo, and his superb stoppage-time twist caused Phil Foden to haul him down, giving the visitors some much-needed reprieve. Calvert-Lewin has been a consistent starter throughout this hectic period and has not scored since September – albeit he was unlucky not to be awarded with a brace in the win against Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier this month – so Dyche may decide to rearrange his squad.
The manager will also need to answer questions on Dwight McNeil. After worsening a previous knee injury, the midfielder has not played since his pivotal role in the stunning victory over Wolves. Dyche characterized him as “a maybe” for Forest’s visit, but he would also consider winger Iliman Ndiaye’s condition. Ndiaye, who scored the equaliser against Manchester City, was substituted late in the game due to a calf injury, which is believed to be minor and he is expected to return at the weekend. If neither player is featured, Jesper Lindstrom is the obvious replacement.
