Sunderland defender Ben Crompton has extended his loan with Tamworth. Crompton impressed against Tamworth in the National League Cup earlier this month, as the Black Cats’ under-21s squad overcame them. The center-back produced a beautiful finish in the newly founded tournament’s 5-1 victory. Following the game, Tamworth approached Sunderland about a loan, which was approved by all parties and resulted in the 20-year-old defender signing for the National League club on a one-month loan agreement until January. Crompton has, however, extended his move.
The announcement continued: “Tamworth Football Club are delighted to announce that Ben Crompton has extended his loan deal with the Lambs on a 1-month loan deal from @SunderlandAFC.” Sunderland’s youth manager Robin Nicholls stated about the initial deal in November: “This loan provides a wonderful opportunity for Ben to play senior football at the National League level and take the next step in his development. “Having met some of the Tamworth staff when we faced them earlier in the week, we were impressed with their approach and ambition and believe Ben will have the chance to thrive in their environment.”
Crompton has already made his Sunderland first-team debut, playing in an EFL Cup match against Crewe Alexandra last season. So far this season, he has been nominated to two senior matchday squads but has not played any minutes. Crompton, who joined Sunderland from Shrewsbury Town, is under contract with the Academy of Light until the summer of 2025.
