Regis Le Bris expresses his frustration in Sunderland.

Regis Le Bris, head coach of Sunderland, was disappointed that his team couldn’t build on two moments of first-half magic in a 2-2 draw with managerless Coventry at the Stadium of Light. The Sky Blues, who rallied under interim manager Rhys Carr after Mark Robins was sacked two days earlier, recovered from a two-goal deficit to gain a draw by following up Haji Wright’s 62nd-minute finish with Jack Rudoni’s header with six minutes remaining. Sunderland had looked like expanding their lead at the top of the Championship to four points before those blows.

French striker Wilson Isidor’s spectacular volley in the 16th minute was surpassed by Dennis Cirkin’s remarkable run and 25-yard thunderbolt 19 minutes later, but it was insufficient. Le Bris, whose side has now drawn three games in a row, stated: “It was a solid first half for us. “I wanted it like that for the entire game.”Our strength, qualities at home, and in possession allowed us to create numerous scoring opportunities, culminating in two spectacular goals. “Probably, in the first half, our out of possession was not good. We tried to solve these issues.

“We couldn’t keep the ball under pressure, allowing the opponent to exploit both their strength and our weakness in the second half. We’re dissatisfied with that.We have strength, and we must build on that. It is a question of consistency, weakness, and commitment, and the players must understand what to do when up against a team like Coventry.” Isidor’s superb volley from Romaine Mundle’s cross got the ball rolling, and Cirkin’s fantastic shot, after linking well with Mundle, appeared to put Sunderland on track for three points.

However, Wright’s deft finish inside the area opened the way for Rudoni to head in from a crowded box, giving Coventry a beneficial result on Wearside. Sunderland could have added a third before those two goals, but Isidor was denied by goalkeeper Brad Collins, who also saved Aaron Connolly. Despite the week’s difficulties following Robins’ departure, Coventry persevered in the second half and earned a 17th place finish. Carr stated, “It’s not about me; it’s about the long-standing supporters.” The players worked extremely hard, and it is important to do what is right for Coventry City Football Club.

“I’m just glad we gave ourselves credit in the end. “We wanted to be united as a collective on the pitch, and over the last 48 hours, the staff has stepped up, and the players, as you can see today, have been outstanding. I approach things day by day. “We chatted with the guys at halftime, and we needed to make tactical adjustments. We talked about the character needed, and I’m delighted, pleased, and happy that the players in there demonstrated that character. “It was a game with two halves. We hoped to play both halves like the second, but to go away from home and get a point against the best team in the league is a good result.”
