Régis Le Bris Issues Wilson Isidor and Anthony Patterson report, with an exciting conclusion on Sunderland’s triumph.
Sunderland increased their lead at the top of the Championship with a 2-0 win over Oxford United. Régis Wilson Isidor was substituted in the closing stages of the 2-0 win over Oxford United, and Le Bris feels he averted a major injury. Isidor scored his fourth goal in six starts up front earlier in the game, a fantastic first-time volley off Dan Neil’s chipped pass. Initial indications suggest that Isidor will be fit to face QPR next week, and while goalkeeper Anthony Patterson is also doubtful after missing this game, Le Bris insists he will not be out for long.
Le Bris also stated that he is completely confident in Simon Moore, who preserved a clean sheet on his league debut for the team. “We don’t know exactly at the minute, but it shouldn’t be too serious,” Le Bris told reporters. “We saw today that Simon performed brilliantly. Even with a few acts, you can tell if a player is in the game and at the appropriate level, which he was. He has been preparing for this since the beginning of the summer, and he is quite serious and explicit in his preparations each day. He deserved this performance, and we were quite confident in him today.”Wilson also appears to have no major issues.
He got a contact on his knee; I don’t think it’s a huge deal.” Le Bris commended his players for a professional performance at the end of a hard week of fixtures, saying the quality of Sunderland’s forward play demonstrated why there is still more to come from his team. “The third game in a week is not easy to manage,” Le Bris added.
“I think we had fantastic control of the game, especially in the first half. We could have scored one or two more goals to feel comfortable in the second half, but we also needed to be consistent until the end, which is beneficial to us as a team. I’m thrilled because the players played well, managed the game well, and I believe we deserved to win.
“The final third is the most difficult to break. This is the final layer to be added when creating a new culture and game model. It’s not flawless, but it’s not simple, and Jobe’s goal is extremely fascinating because we want him to be in this box to receive this type of cross. The timing was excellent. This layer of our game model is improving, and the two goals were sufficient to win.”
