Everton meet Fulham this weekend in a Premier League match that will mean little to most. After all, it isn’t the most exciting match for the average viewer, but Sky Sports chose it for Saturday afternoon’s 5:30 p.m. kick-off. Perhaps the motive behind the decision was the hope that Goodison Park would host another home defeat for the Toffees, who have a poor record against the Cottagers in previous years. With that in mind, a slew of commentators gathered to make their predictions for the match. Sky Sports commentators anticipate Everton’s Premier League encounter against Fulham.
Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, Jill Scott, Ian Wright, and Roy Keane appeared on The Overlap to attempt to accurately predict the outcome of six Premier League matches scheduled for this weekend. Given that it was picked for television, the Toffees were one of the matches, and their game shattered the five pundits totally. The former began proceedings by stating frankly, “Everton vs Fulham.” 1-1?’ Scholes, on the other hand, had another idea: ‘I fancy Fulham me.’ This caused his old Manchester United teammate to change the prediction to 2-1.
Wright and Keane, on the other hand, were less than pleased, with the latter confidently declaring: ‘A draw all day.’ Only Scott supported Sean Dyche’s side, and the Irishman added: ‘And remember, there’s always one strange result, like Bournemouth defeating Arsenal.’ Scott wanted to reiterate her support for Everton and concluded her forecast by saying, ‘Well, just for the record, when Everton wins, I believe Everton wins. But go on. This weekend’s encounter may have added excitement since Fulham hijacked Everton’s summer move for Ernest Nuamah, which neither team completed.
Everton does not have a strong record when playing Fulham. Evertonians will have appreciated having at least one of these pundits on their side, but on paper, things do not seem good for them. After all, they haven’t beaten the West London club since Carlo Ancelotti led them to Craven Cottage, and looking for their most recent victory over them at Goodison Park takes us back even farther.
That result, 3-0, came in 2018, with Gylfi Sigurdsson and Cenk Tosun scoring the goals. The Toffees have lost their past four home games against Fulham, including a penalty shootout defeat last season. Everton’s manager will face a difficult assignment in stopping this run, in a game that is significantly more difficult than it appears on the surface.
