Following Everton’s developments, Chris Sutton believes Sean Dyche will be named Premier League Manager of the Season. Following a poor start to the Premier League season, the Toffees moved five points clear of the relegation zone with a 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town on Saturday (19 October), thanks to goals from Iliman Ndiaye and Michael Keane.
While there is still a lot of football to be played this season, BBC Sport commentator Sutton has backed Dyche to keep the Toffees up and possibly earn an award in the process. On It’s All Kicking Off (21 October, 42:50), he said: “Ian Ladyman enjoys putting the boot into Everton, which may explain why he’s gone away for a week because they’re suddenly on fire. “Sean Dyche may be the manager of the season, based on recent performances, so it’s encouraging to see Everton performing well. I had faith in them.
Will Sean Dyche leave Everton amid Goodison Park sack speculation? It’s remarkable how rapidly things change in football. Only a few weeks ago, experts and fans alike speculated that Dyche could be fired, especially with an ownership change on the horizon. However, as Sutton notes, the Toffees have been “on fire” in recent games, looking like a new team at Goodison Park. While some credit must go to the players, the manager and his coaching staff deserve a lot of credit.
Only time will tell if Dyche’s work at Goodison Park is enough to put him in contention for Manager of the Year. There is still a lot of work to be done between now and the conclusion of the season, and the former Burnley manager’s position on Merseyside remains uncertain. Hopefully, this solid run of form will continue in the coming months, and relegation fears will fade away.
