Future Will Tell: Régis Le Bris gave a message of hopelessness to Sunderland.

Régis Le Bris has confirmed that Dan Ballard would be absent from Sunderland’s game against Hull City this weekend, joining Eliezer Mayenda. The Black Cats will be the last of the 12 teams to play this weekend, despite being at the top of the table. The Wearside outfit has been able to enjoy two weeks in first place thanks to the international break, but injury concerns remain throughout the squad despite the extra recuperation time between games.

Sunderland will be looking to go back to winning ways when they travel to the MKM Stadium on Sunday, after drawing 2-2 with Leeds United before the international break. Victory might keep their position in the rankings, with only their superior goal difference separating them from second-place Sheffield United. Régis Le Bris provides Dan Ballard injury update ahead of the Hull City trip.

Le Bris has confirmed that Ballard will be unavailable for Sunday’s match against the Tigers. However, he is hoping that the defender will be able to return to duty in a week, possibly in time to face Oxford United. “Ballard should be ready for next week,” Le Bris stated on SUnderland’s YouTube page. Ballard has not played since Sunderland’s 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough in September, when he came on as a substitute in the final stages.

His last appearance came in a 3-2 loss to Plymouth Argyle following the September international break, and an ankle injury forced him to miss the team’s last three games. Mayenda, meanwhile, has been out since the triumph over Middlesbrough owing to a muscular injury and is unlikely to play against Hull either. Regis Le Bris revealed Aaron Connolly’s fitness update.

Le Bris provided a favorable report on Aaron Connolly, who might make his Sunderland debut against his former team on Sunday. The Irishman is eligible for selection after joining as a free agent earlier this month, having departed Hull at the end of the previous season. “Yes that is the case [that Connolly could play against Hull],” Le Bris answered.
