This January promises to be an exciting one for Everton, with the feeling that everything is possible. If they jumped in and spent freely under Friedkin’s new leadership, many would see it as the new owner attempting to make the team their own. However, enduring a reserved month, perhaps unloading one or two and mildly replacing them, might also make sense. Despite Kevin Thelwell’s strict transfer policy over the past two years, the club continues to face scrutiny and financial penalties from the Premier League. With that in mind, it’s possible that outgoings will outweigh incomings in January.
A fresh update on Beto’s Everton future has emerged. This raises the question of who Everton can afford to lose. After all, their roster isn’t very huge, and Everton boss Sean Dyche has already complained about their lack of depth during an early-season injury crisis. If he has to sell someone, the strikers are the most likely candidates. Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s refusal to sign a new Everton deal, along with Juventus’ interest in Beto, makes it clear why they are the most likely to go. And now, speaking exclusively with Everton.News, journalist Graeme Bailey has provided a fresh update on the latter:
‘I’m told Everton would contemplate Beto’s departure in January if there was interest; they expect to have Armando Broja out by the New Year, so there may be room to move him.’ How has Beto’s Everton career progressed so far? It’s fair to say that since moving to Goodison Park in 2023, things haven’t gone as planned for Beto. Some could say that he has hardly been given the opportunity to accomplish much at all. After all, it rapidly became evident that, despite his high but delayed price tag, he was only going to be Calvert-Lewin’s understudy.
As a result, the 26-year-old made just nine Premier League appearances last season, scoring three goals despite making his EFL Cup debut in late August. This season has started much like the previous one, with brief and unimpressive cameos from the bench. Beto is undoubtedly an expendable asset in Everton’s squad, but this leaves Dyche severely reliant on Calvert-Lewin, who has struggled with form and fitness for years.
