‘Get relegated’ – Newcastle United supporters bash ‘tinpot’ Everton over Anthony Gordon insult

Newcastle United fans reacted angrily on social media when Everton appeared to mock Anthony Gordon. The Toon ace, who arrived from the Toffees for £40 million in January 2023, missed a key penalty in the goalless draw at Goodison Park. Boos rang out throughout Merseyside as Gordon prepared to slot past England teammate Jordan Pickford from 12 yards. However, the goalkeeper denied Gordon low to his left, keeping the score equal. This heightened the tension, with Everton fans portraying their former academy product as the pantomime villain.

Gordon also squandered a fantastic one-on-one opportunity deep into the second half, which would have secured all three points for Newcastle. The game ended in a 0-0 draw, with the Magpies missing out on a Champions League spot. Following the game, Everton’s media channel aired a replay of Gordon’s missed first-half penalty. The caption for the post was “Wish they had played the buzzer from half-time when the penalty was saved”.

Newcastle fans were incensed on social media, calling the Toffees “tinpot” for their reaction. One fan went so far as to wish Everton, who must travel to St James’ Park on the season’s last day, a painful relegation. “Dear Lord,” another Newcastle fan replied. “I would feel embarrassed if our club did this. Absolutely horrible crap. The game was good. “Everton defended superbly, and Pickford was fantastic. Well played, and best wishes for the season. Keep it classy, though. “This is petty and pathetic.”

Another projected karma for Everton’s visit to Tyneside in May. The post read: “Something tells me that the final game of the season at St James Park will allow Gordon to exact his sweet revenge and send these guys down once and for all.” “I can see all these tweets backfiring.”
