The Green Bay Packers will travel to California to face the Los Angeles Rams in their Week 5 game. They are coming off a disappointing loss at home to the Minnesota Vikings, who nearly completed an incredible comeback after falling behind 28-0 in the first half. Christian Watson, a wide receiver, suffered a high ankle sprain during the 31-29 loss and will most certainly miss this week. Devonte Wyatt, a defensive lineman, also injured his ankle and will miss the game against the Rams.

Another wide receiver, Romeo Doubs, is classified as uncertain on the injury report. He missed the team’s past two sessions due to what Matt LaFleur described as a personal problem. According to one Packers insider, that personal concern is a problem for the team. Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs is reportedly unhappy with his role. According to Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated, Doubs skipped practice on Thursday and Friday because he is dissatisfied with his role on the offense. He stated, “Green Bay Packers receiver Romeo Doubs skipped practice on Thursday and wasn’t present on Friday because he is upset with his opportunities in the passing game, sources told Packers On SI.”

Huber also says that when Doubs did not show up for practice on Thursday, team members went to his house to check on him and located him. He simply did not show up. Doubs has also erased all mentions to the Packers from his social media platforms. What makes this unclear is that the third-year wide receiver has played an important role in the offense this season. He has the second-most targets on the squad (20), trailing only Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks (22). Doubs is also tied for second on the team in receptions (12), trailing only Reed (17).

The third-year pro is only the third Packers wide receiver in history to have 100 receptions, 1,000 yards, and 10 touchdowns in his first two seasons. He is also second on the club in receiving yards (169). Reed (336) is the team’s only player with more. Green Bay Packers fans are confused by the Romeo Doubts report. Mr. Huber is a well-known reporter, and there is no reason to question his writing or sources. That explains why Packers fans are perplexed by this claim. Doubs is such an understated player, and one of the things the wide receiver room is most proud of is that they don’t care who shines brightest as long as the team wins.

However, this appears to be false, at least if the claim concerning Doubs is correct. Fans expressed their confusion on social media. This last point is interesting for several reasons. First, Doubs’ drop rate this year is 10.0%, the second-highest of his career (he had 13.9% as a rookie in 2022). Second, Packers quarterbacks have only a 66.5 passer rating when targeting him. And here’s something strange: in Green Bay’s loss to Minnesota, Doubs tied for third on the team in terms of targets. Wicks had thirteen, Tucker Kraft had nine, and Reed had eight.

Which makes one wonder what Doubs expects his function to be. The figures above and previously mentioned imply that he is already one of the offense’s top two or three pass catchers. He is in the third year of his four-year rookie contract, so money is not an issue either. This is a very perplexing and tragic turn of events.
