Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian has been suspended following reports of inappropriate behavior with the team, a decision that has sent shockwaves through the college football community. The suspension comes as the Longhorns were preparing for a crucial stretch in their season, making the timing particularly impactful.

G.J. Kinne, the current head coach of Texas State and a former player under Sarkisian at USC, issued a statement addressing the situation:

“I am deeply saddened and disappointed by the news regarding Coach Sarkisian. As someone who has played under him and worked with him in various capacities, I have always respected him as a coach and a mentor. It’s hard to reconcile the person I know with the reports that have come out. That said, the safety and well-being of the players and staff must always come first, and if any boundaries were crossed, then the appropriate actions need to be taken.

“Coach Sarkisian has a long and storied career in football, and it’s important to remember that we don’t have all the facts yet. However, this incident should serve as a reminder to all of us in leadership positions to constantly reflect on how we interact with our teams and ensure that our actions align with the values we preach. There’s no room for any behavior that could undermine the trust and respect that is essential for a successful team environment.

“Moving forward, I hope the Texas football program can find stability and continue to perform at a high level. The players deserve the best, and I’m confident that the staff and interim leadership will guide them through this challenging time. My thoughts are also with Coach Sarkisian and his family, as they navigate the consequences of these actions. It’s my hope that he can take this time to reflect and come back stronger, both personally and professionally.

“In the world of sports, we often talk about adversity and how to overcome it. This is one of those moments where the true character of everyone involved will be tested. I’m optimistic that the Texas Longhorns will emerge from this stronger and more united as a team.”

Sarkisian’s suspension is a significant blow to the Longhorns, a team that had been looking to build momentum under his leadership. The university has yet to announce a permanent replacement, leaving many questions about the program’s future direction.
